Summer? We blinked. It is gone.

The kids were home; the house full, and our projects many. We biked, hiked, swam, and visited with family and friends. The kids rode horses, played games, tended cows, chicken, and duck, drew many pictures, and lived for hours in imaginary worlds of their own making. Jordan wrote music; Jessica wrote a novel; Kyra started to read chapter books; Kai began speaking in sentences, mostly about tractors (or “wadoos”) passing by, and Geoff and I had our local debut performance, playing and dancing, in a lovely cabaret space just down the road.

Meanwhile, Geoff launched his virtual instrument library—Plectrum!  It is out and moving. The buzz is building. Look out for new demos and forthcoming reviews.

Meanwhile 2, while waiting to find a publishing home for What a Body Knows, ideas for the sequel are bursting forth. They are coming together in a book about our relationships with parents, partners, and progeny that focuses on what each of these relationships can teach us about living in love. I am learning as I go, writing as I learn, ever more clear about what this time for me is for.

Even so the process has not been without its anxious moments, most of which I have churned into the project of taking apart, raising the ceiling, and rebuilding Kyra’s bedroom. I finished in mid-August with a lovely wash of lavender-blue paint called “Cheerful Whisper.” Next!

With summer now winding to a close, pumpkins growing, and tomatoes falling off the vine, the kids are back in school. Jordan, entering seventh grade, his first year in middle school, is mastering the art of arriving at the right class with the right books on time, while also juggling homework and daily soccer practices. Jessica, in sixth grade, is queen of the school, and Kyra could not be happier about starting first. It is quiet in the house now, except for small Kai who walks around calling for his siblings. Mom and Dad aren’t quite enough.

Looking forward, check out the calendar for news about the fall. Most exciting, perhaps, is the coming out of LaMothe,Gee & Family—live in concert on Saturday, November 3, at the Fort Salem Theater! We will all be there—with Jessica on flute, Jordan on piano, sax, and guitar, Kyra belting out her tunes, and Kai, perhaps, making a grand entrance in the finale.

More soon!

We are celebrating the second anniversary of our move here with the launch of this new website!

On this site you will find news about the release of Geoff’s new virtual instrument library, Plectrum; about Kimerer’s forthcoming book, What a Body Knows, and about the mission of our emerging entity: VITAL ARTS.

You will also find information about the farm, Kimerer’s other books and articles, Geoff’s music recordings, and the dance and music productions we do together.

Two years ago we had no hot water, no indoor plumbing, no window screens or telephone service, no mailbox, and one room to inhabit. The house was barren. The barnyard a wilderness. The visions of what we hoped to create were seeds in our pockets.

We still have a ways to go. In the coming months, we will be adding to our website—more dance, music, writing, and, further journal entries about our ongoing plans, projects, and progress.

We invite you to take a look around, ask questions, and be in touch!

Finally, as we launch this site, we do so with infinite thanks to Scott Pryor of Pryor Design. With equal parts artistry, wizardry, and comic relief Scott made a challenging task of designing this site seem easy. We are also grateful to the newest member of his team, Chris Wisniewski, who implemented the design and made it happen, to Colby Devitt of Wildform, who saved us in the final hours, and to Russ Gold and Melissa Schultz for the photographs they contributed to the project.

Enjoy! This is just the beginning…
